2021-2022 School Year Reminders

It’s been great to see South Prairie Eagles back in the building, attending specials, and focusing on relationships. A couple of reminders about school this year:

  • Picture Day is October 4
  • Drop off:
    • If you are parking, please walk your student to the sidewalk
    • If parents want to get out of their car, they should go to the parking lot, not the kiss ‘n’ fly lane.

South Prairie Elementary Choir Sign-up

South Prairie 4th and 5th-grade elementary choir is a chance for your child to be coached on having a solid singing foundation and to sing some very fun choral music. Each elementary school will have their own in-person choir that meets once a week before school.

Choir will rehearse Friday mornings from 7:50- 8:30. If you have a child that is in Walk to Learn, they can leave choir early then go to the middle school for a class that day. The first day of choir will be October 8th.

We have two scheduled concerts this year, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. and May 2nd (time TBD) You can also pencil in a trip to a sing-in-the-stands event for the Chicago Wolves on March 13th. We will announce other singing opportunities that may arise during the year.

We will be asking the choir members to wear our choir shirts to each concert. The choir T-shirt will feature the new Sycamore choir logo and will be between $10.25- $8.25 depending on quantities ordered.  If you do not wish to order a shirt please provide a plain black T-shirt for the concerts. We will send an email about paying for the T-shirts after choir has begun with the exact price.

5th Grade Recorder

We will be playing recorder again this year during the 5th-grade music special. All 5th-grade students will need to bring their home recorder to class beginning on the following days:

  • Mr. Wheeler’s Class - every Wednesday starting October 6
  • Ms. Gilmore’s Class - every Friday starting October 8

If you purchased a recorder last year, that recorder will still work for this year's music class.

If you did not participate in music last year, you may use an older sibling’s recorder (they can be washed in hot soapy water and air-dried. If they are Yamaha recorders, previously purchased through the school district, they are washed through the dishwasher.)

If you are still in need of a recorder, they are available for purchase through the school district for $5 through the online store.  All students will need a recorder for their music class.

South Prairie PTO

We had a very successful Mum Fundraiser selling a total of 1,685 mums!

The next PTO meeting is Oct 5th. Some classrooms are still in need of a room parent. Please click the link below to sign-up or to volunteer in other ways.

Daily Self Certification

Please call the school office if your student is feeling ill, and be prepared to answer a few questions that will help us quickly and efficiently evaluate your child so that we can provide you information based on the latest recommended guidelines. It is imperative that if your student is experiencing ANY of the following symptoms, your student should stay home from school and any extracurricular activities outside the home.

  • Temperature of 100.4 (or greater) degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius;
  • Cough;
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
  • Chills;
  • Fatigue;
  • Muscle and body aches;
  • Moderate to severe headache;
  • Sore throat;
  • New loss of taste or smell;
  • Vomiting;
  • Diarrhea; or
  • Any other COVID-19 symptoms identified by the CDC or IDPH.

We know that things may look a little different this year and we are committed to keeping you informed on the changes that are taking place. Here is an overview of what your student can expect if they come to the Health Office with any of the symptoms listed above:

  • The student will be brought to the health office where the nurse or their designee will quickly evaluate the student’s condition.
  • If it is determined that they are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms the student will be escorted to a designated and supervised isolation area.
  • The school nurse will notify the parent/guardian and walk them through the process of what is required for the student to return to school.
  • Sick students should be safely transported home by parent or guardian as soon as possible.
  • Siblings/household members of the symptomatic student may also be sent home.
  • Students will be expected to remain home from school and any extracurricular activities until cleared to return by the school nurse.

Job Opportunities

There are many open positions in Sycamore Community School District 427.  We are in desperate need of bus drivers and paraprofessionals. Please take a look and pass the word about these opportunities to join our team!
