Education/Work History

  • Graduated from NIU with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education
  • Taught First Grade for three years at Hiawatha School District in Kirkland
  • Taught Kindergarten for three years at Sycamore School District
  • Took nine years off to stay home with my kids
  • Graduated from Aurora University with a master’s degree in reading
  • Currently a reading specialist at South Prairie Elementary in Sycamore


I live in Sycamore with my husband, Josh, and our two sons, Jonah and Grant. I enjoy reading, gardening, playing Scrabble, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Family Resources

  • ABCYa – ABCYA has online games for kids in K-5 sorted by grade level. Games incorporate areas such as math and language arts while introducing basic computer skills.
  • Starfall – Starfall is a free website to teach children to read with phonics. For preschool, kindergarten , and first grade. Exciting phonics games and online interactive books.
  • Grammar Ninja – Students become “The Grammar Ninja” and they must identify nouns, verbs and adjectives in a sentence, by throwing ninja stars at words.
  • Storyline – Streaming video program featuring famous people reading children’s books aloud.
  • PBS Kids – Play educational games, watch PBS KIDS shows and find activities like coloring and music.
  • Into the Books – Into the Book is a reading comprehension resource for K-4 students and teachers.
  • Spelling City – Teaching spelling and vocabulary is easy with SpellingCity!
  • Literacy Center – Literacy is a great place to practice letters and sounds.
